ISLA REDONA
The diver has barely started his descent
along the eelgrass-covered slope when he reaches a cave with numerous
openings suitable as entrances and exits at a depth between 6 and
12 metres. The interior of the cave is filled with a dim bluish
light from the various openings through which sunlight can enter.
The diver should switch on his diving lamp, however, for the surface
light is not sufficient to allow him to see the full glory of the
colours of the marine creature that inhabit the cave. Yellow cluster
anemone, corals, garnets, cardinal fish and snails can all be studied
here. On leaving the cave you can descend further to a maximum depth
of 24 metres, where you will find the wreck of an old sailing vessel,
marvellously encrusted with marine life, which has become the permanent
home of numerous varieties of fish like dusky groupers, moray eels,
etc. There is no need to get too close, simply floating above it
is enough to flush your system with endorphins and feelings of unbounded
happiness. This makes it very suitable for beginners, the more so
since at a depth of only 6 metres the rocks form a wide overhanging
projection which over its full extent of about fifty metres offers
a sheltered habitat in relatively well-lit shallow waters to a large
variety of marine life.
This is a spot where a diver can lose all sense of time in the study
of the endless variety of forms and colours of underwater life.
Characterisation: reef/cave/wreck
Minimum qualification: EDC/OWD/for the full depth AOWD
Depth: 6 – 24 metres

| LLOSA DE STA. EULÀRIA
– Sta. Eulària Reef
The reef between the Isla Eulària
and Isla Redona is not a very suitable position for lighthouses------
At long last it seems that even the state authorities have taken
this on board, after two lighthouses have subsided into the sea
in recent years in the same spot. But this is a boon for divers,
for on top of the other marvels the place has to offer there are
now the remains of two departed lighthouses to insect. The spot
is marked by a buoy to warn unsuspecting vessels. The lighthouse
fragments are at depths between 6 and 15 metres.
The reef complex possesses a number of attractive overhangs in whose
shelter a host of marine creatures disport themselves e.g. fork
beards, scorpion fish and lobsters. The whole is surrounded by eelgrass
meadows, much loved by young fish. The standard depth of 18 metres
contains so many wonderful things to see that even beginners can
find practically all of the highlights within their reach. All conceivable
inhabitants of underwater rock slopes can be found assembled in
the slopes beneath the defunct lighthouses. In the background shoals
of barracuda hover modestly in expectation of their cue. This diving
area is so extensive that there are 4 separate courses for a descent.
We chose two, the inner reef on the north side, with the lighthouse
shells as a highlight. The spot is interesting down to a depth of
28 metres (the maximum depth here is 30 metres). Our other descent
was at the southern outer reef where we explored a chimney with
a collection of corals and cardinal fish that extends from a depth
of 12 to 20 metres. To the east of the reef there is a descent into
an arena that reaches down to 50 metres. We mention this merely
as a piece of information and do not suggest that you should go
down there…..
Characterisation: reef/cave/chimney
Minimum qualification: EDC/OWD/for the full depth AOWD
Depth: 6 – 28 metres, western maximum 30 metres, eastern maximum
50 metres

ISLA SUR-LLado Sur
________________________________________________________________

CAVE CALA LLONGA - Cueva
Cala Llonga
30 minutes from Cala Pada to Cala Llonga, we find a vertical wall at the beginning of the way in at the south part of the beach. At this point there is a famous cave called "LA CATEDRAL". Diving over a bottom of 15 meters, we can see a landscape which contains an abundant submarine life. On the same cliff wall, 12 meters deep we see the entrance to the cave. It is an arch 10 meters wide and goes 5 meters below the surface. The closer bottom is full of gravel. Indoors we find bigger block covered by incrusted yellow sea anemones. In the main room, we can reach the surface, leaving the regulator and breathing the air of the inside without running any risk. Lighting up the vault we see that it has a great height in the inside part and we see in some parts of it stalactites and stalagmites close to the entrance zone. When we dive underwater again we can see the entrance to the cave lighted by the outer light over the intense blue of the IBIZA sea. Going out of the cave we can keep on with the immersion as we go to the South watching some stone archs occupied by brown meagres and white seas, and over a maximum depth of 20 meters.
It is a different dive, above all, for people who have never dived in caves of this size but does not involve any risk or danger if we leaded by people who knows the cave. This immersion can be done by divers of any level.
Characterisation: cave/chimney
Minimum qualification: EDC/OWD/for the full depth AOWD
Depth: 5 – 20 metres,
